Muniment Hill 24 created in 1647 and transcribed/translated is now available for CMW members to read on the website under Muniments.
This document was created in Dunbarton on May 3rd, 1647. It is a woodland cutting contract of Duncan MacFarlane fiar of Brachearn & Clachvoik & Stronmacnair, John MacFarlane fiar of Arrochar and others with James, Duke of Lennox. It appears that the total cost of the timber on the Isle of Inchcailloche within Loch Lomond will be 5,000 merks in gold and silver for payment by the Duke of Lennox.

Muniment Hill 23 created in 1645 and transcribed/translated is now available for CMW members to read on the website under Muniments.
This document was created at the Clachan (Gaelic meaning hamlet, settlement or village) of Luss on March 19th, 1645. It is a contract of agreement between Walter MacFarlane the 16th Baron of Arrochar and 13th Chief of Clan MacFarlane and his eldest son John MacFarlane fiar of Arrochar and his heir. Apparently Walter currently has large debts owing to a number of people using the House of Arrochar as collateral. It appears that John will be using Grissell's dowry to settle at least some those debts. In any case John will now be responsible to pay off a debt of 6,000 merks and relieve Walter of this debt and interest. John and Grissell will in return receive money and the income and ownership of one third of Arrochar lands. The contract secures provisions undertaken by John in favour of Grissell Lamont his promised spouse by a marriage contract and includes Sir James Lamount of Inveryne and Archibald Lamount both brothers of Grissell and before her marriage responsible for Grissell and her dowry. Ardess is also to be conveyed to John and immediately after to his brother Andrew.
