This is regarding “proposals” “queries” and “answers” relative to the sale of Arrochar. James Graham the 1st Duke of Montrose and 4th Marquess of Montrose had been litigating against Alexander MacFarlane and his father Andrew. Alexander MacFarlane was the 7th Baron of Gartartan and Andrew MacFarlane was the 6th Baron of Gartartan. Alexander’s younger brother John now the 8th Baron of Gartartan, owner of Barony of Auchentroig and 1st of Ballagan has been left to deal with the situation regarding the Duke of Montrose and completion of the sale of lands with litigation and disbursements for the purchase and price. Proposals from John MacFarlane to the Managers (lawyers or factors) of the Duke of Montrose and the Lady Gartartan (Anna Graham) on Liferent referring back to the original contract of marriage with Alexander. This sale was complicated by the divorce of Anna Graham the second daughter of John Graham of Killearn (Hill 54 & 57) from Alexander MacFarlane in 1720.
