Muniment - Hill 64 1742
Muniment Hill 64 was created by William Ross in Edinburgh on June 1st, 1742. It has been transcribed/translated and is now available for CMW members to read on the website under Muniments.
This was a discharge by Helen Spottiswood, the eldest lawful daughter of the deceased John Spottiswood of that Ilk and Lady Helen Arbuthnot from her second marriage. Lady Helen Arbuthnot was the daughter of Robert 2nd Viscount of Arbuthnot, and her first marriage was to Col. John MacFarlane, Fiar of Arrochar and Ardess. Helen Spottiswood was the sole executrix for Lady Helen Arbuthnot’s last will and testament dated June 11, 1739. This discharge was in favour of the eldest son of Lady Helen Arbuthnot, and Col. John MacFarlane who was Dr. Walter MacFarlane 19th Baron of Arrochar, 2nd Baron of Ardess and 16th Chief of Clan MacFarlane. Walter and Helen had the same mother Lady Helen Arbuthnot.
