Muniment - Hill 66 1766
Muniment Hill 66 was created on March 21st, 1766. It has been transcribed/translated and is now available for CMW members to read on the website under Muniments.
This was a contract with the seller “The Right Honourable Lady Elizabeth Erskine, who was the daughter of Alexander Erskine the 5th Earl of Kellie, and now the wife of Dr. Walter MacFarlane the 19th Baron of Arrochar, 2nd Baron of Ardess and 16th Chief of Clan MacFarlane and with the purchaser John Wardrop a Mason in Glasgow. The contract states that Lady MacFarlan had been given full power from her husband Walter to enter this contract. It was for the sale of woods oak, ash, birch, allar, and other woods whatever with the bark and boughs thereof with planted timber and fir excepted. This lumber belonged to Walter and was situated in the Barony of Arrochar. The contract describes in much detail the pricing, the locations of the trees that can be harvested, the sizes and quantities, the types of trees, the time of the year allowed for the work, the total time in years allowed which was 6 years, and which trees were not allowed to be harvested. If adverse working conditions such as war, pestilence and famine in the country hindered this harvest this contract allowed for the harvest to be paused and allowed an equal time later for the harvest.
