Muniment - Hill 67 1771
Muniment Hill 67 was created on August 9th, 1771, by William McEwan writer (lawyer) in Edinburgh. It has been transcribed/translated and is now available for CMW members to read on the website under Muniments.
This discharge (acknowledges receipt) was written from Mrs. Margaret Walkinshaw widow of James Walkinshaw of Walkinshaw to Dr. William MacFarlane the 20th Baron of Arrochar, 3rd Baron of Ardess and 17th Chief of Clan MacFarlane and John Macfarlane esquire his son for payment of £250 sterling, which was part of a £1500 bond. William a licensed physician in Edinburgh had been living beyond his means and incurred some debts then borrowed these funds from Walkinshaw although William's estates including Arrochar were still owned by him.
Be sure to login at the website first, then select "Clan MacFarlane" from the menu and then select "Muniments". The actual .pdf file will be available for you to open at the bottom of the page. Cheers!
