Muniment Hill 51 includes four documents. It has all been transcribed/translated and is now available for CMW members to read on the website under Muniments.
This includes “Letters of Obligation” and “Horning” against Alexander MacFarlane and his father Andrew at the instance of James Graham the 4th Marquess of Montrose and 1st Duke of Montrose. Dates referred to are during 1720. It appears that the Duke of Montrose is working by legal means toward the foreclosure and seizure of MacFarlane lands. Alexander MacFarlane was the 7th Baron of Gartartan and Andrew MacFarlane was the 6th Baron of Gartartan. Also included are accusations by the Duke of Montrose to the effect that Alexander and Andrew have tried to postpone their obligations and showed contempt and disobedience therefore he is attempting to seize the land.
