Muniment Hill 54 was created in 1729. It has been transcribed/translated and is now available for CMW members to read on the website under Muniments.
This is regarding “Memoranda” “Memorials” and “Letters” relative to a Minute of Sale in 1720 (Hill 50) and consequent “Inhibitions”, “Horning”, and “Adjudication” at the instance of James Graham the 1st Duke of Montrose and 4th Marquess of Montrose against Alexander MacFarlane and his father Andrew. Alexander MacFarlane was the 7th Baron of Gartartan and Andrew MacFarlane was the 6th Baron of Gartartan. These were complicated by the divorce of Anna Graham the second daughter of John Graham of Killearn (Hill 57) who divorced Alexander MacFarlane in 1720. Alexander’s younger brother John now the 8th Baron of Gartartan, owner of Barony of Auchentroig and 1st of Ballagan has now been left to deal with the situation regarding the Duke of Montrose and Gartartan lands with litigation and disbursements.

Apparently, Alexander MacFarlane committed adultery with Elizabeth Wilkieson the spouse of James Graham of Gartur leading to this divorce.

Muniment Hill 52 was created in Edinburgh on February 8th, 1721. It has been transcribed/translated and is now available for CMW members to read on the website under Muniments.
This includes “Inhibitions” and “Adjudications” against Alexander MacFarlane and his father Andrew at the instance and in favour of James Graham the 4th Marquess of Montrose and 1st Duke of Montrose. It appears that the Duke of Montrose is still working by legal means toward the foreclosure and seizure of MacFarlane lands. Alexander MacFarlane was the 7th Baron of Gartartan and Andrew MacFarlane was the 6th Baron of Gartartan. Also included are accusations by the Duke of Montrose to the effect that Alexander and Andrew are still trying to postpone their obligations.
