Muniment Hill 63 was created on April 19th, 1731, by John Buchanan servant to writer Robert Colquhoun of Edinburgh. It has been transcribed/translated and is now available for CMW members to read on the website under Muniments.
This discharge was written from Lady Helen Arbuthnot the daughter of Robert 2nd Viscount of Arbuthnott and Lord Inverbirvie to Dr. Walter MacFarlane the 19th Baron of Arrochar, 2nd Baron of Ardess and 16th Chief of Clan MacFarlane. Lady Arbuthnot was the relict (widow) of Col. John Macfarlane, Fiar of Arrochar and Ardess and they were both parents of Walter. This discharge decreased the amount of an annuity payable from the lands of Arrochar McGilchrist to Lady Helen Arbuthnot. This annuity was part of her marriage agreement and payable to Lady Helen if she outlived her husband, John.

This memorandum was written by Mungo Graham of Gorthie to Dr. Walter MacFarlane the 19th Baron of Arrochar, 2nd Baron of Ardess and 16th Chief of Clan MacFarlane. It is regarding certain missing writs (records or documents of transactions or liens) on Nether Arrochar. One of these was a discharge or surrender by Robert Graham of Gartmore. This memorandum mentions Bethia Mcfarland the youngest daughter of Andrew Mcfarland of Gartartan and Jean Mcfarland another of his daughters.
Mungo Graham is still working to get clear title to this property (Nether Arrochar) for James Graham the 1st Duke of Montrose and 4th Marquess of Montrose.
This land sale initially commenced in 1720 but by 1736 all legal matters and papers are still not completed to the satisfaction of the Duke of Montrose.
