The first charter which is a formal, written legal document used to grant or confirm land, privileges or property is by Mormaer Maol Choluim I of Lennox (Malcolm I), also known as Malcolm de Levenax, Earl of Lennox. Mormaer is the Celtic equivalent of an Earl. This was granted to Duncan de Arrochar, 2nd Baron of Arrochar the son of Gilchrist de Levenax 1st Baron of Arrochar. It is for the lands of Arrochar (ploughgate) of Luss. The second is by Murdoch Earl of Menteith to Gilbert of Drummond part of the Ville of Buchopple, and the third is by Robert Earl of Fife and Menteith granting to William de Spens the burgess of Perth and to his wife Isabella Campbell lands.
